# What unlimited Claude API access means

## A fixed price for a selected period

Choose by the work you intend to complete during the period. A flat price can make sustained coding sessions easier to budget, but a low-volume or intermittent workload may cost less on [prepaid API credits](/topup/).

## Fair-use limits still apply

Unlimited eligible usage does not mean infinite throughput, guaranteed upstream availability or unrestricted bulk traffic. Rate limits, concurrency, model access and account restrictions remain relevant.

Before running a long job, verify your selected model with the key and confirm that the workload fits the plan. Use timeouts, controlled concurrency and retry backoff. For Claude Code or an IDE, use the [tool's integration guide](/learn/) and inspect the request history after setup. An API key, selected model and endpoint must belong to the same supported route. A timed gateway plan does not include the claude.ai chat app or an Anthropic subscription.
